VOCAL COACHING

Alisha B believes that everyone can sing. Singing is an intimate skill that requires patience, discipline and proper practice. It is essentially all about training our vocal cords, developing muscle memory & improving our stamina in the best way suited to one’s voice.

“I have always told all my students that the vocal coaching process is like preparing a delicious lasagna; there are layers and layers of different ingredients that work together to create a strong foundation and base so your voice can continue to develop and grow. It requires time and dedication. No one can sing like Beyonce overnight.

As your vocal coach, I am going to be your voice’s personal trainer to ensure you are given the correct techniques and can develop healthy vocal habits for a strong voice offering longevity and effectiveness.”

VOCAL COACHING FAQ

WHAT do you teach in your vocal class?

Alisha B has designed an effective and ongoing curriculum that covers many chapters to understand singing and our voice. The adaptable program is fluid and flexible enough to cater to all difficulty levels of new and experienced singers and covers vocal techniques, performance training and delivery.

Together, we study, discover and explore a variety of tips, tricks and techniques that engage and unite our mind, voice, heart and body to bring out the best vocalist and singer in you!

Some of the chapters include:

  • Breathing - the proper way to fuel your vocal engine to sustain long notes, clear sound and maximize air flow for optimal pitch, vocal stamina and increasing your vocal range

  • Anatomy & Science of Singing - learning about all the correct scientific terminology of all the prime physical aspects that enhances a vocalist’s experience in becoming a great singer such as identifying and understanding the role of the larynx, diaphragm, chest register, head register, nose, jaw, tongue, teeth, lips, posture etc.

  • Phrasing, Projection & Placement - many vocal enthusiasts tend to neglect or are unaware of the importance of the 3 Ps -  Phrasing is understanding how you dramatically can change the mood of the song or music with your breathing pockets allowing a sense of storytelling and performance. Additionally, it is important to understand how placement of vowels and projection can have an overall effect in the diction, pronunciation, enunciation and other speech tools that help us sound clean & clear when singing.

WHO can take your vocal class?

Absolutely anyone! Whether you are a beginner or an experienced singer, Alisha B’s vocal coaching programs are open to all levels, backgrounds, genders and ages 5 and up.

Beginner Singers:
Experienced Singers:
Child Star
Rock Lead Singer

Since singing requires a variety of skills, Alisha B goes through the 4 basic fundamental techniques with new students; breath control, pitch, articulation and identifying your vocal range and understanding how to expand it.

We also learn techniques on how to use different vocal registers and tone (chest, head, falsetto, nasal) and replacing poor, ineffective and unhealthy vocal habits in order to avoid vocal strain and encourage longevity for a strong, growing and powerful voice over time.

As a professional recording artist and performer, Alisha B shares more insider knowledge, in depth experience and technical instruction for singers looking to go the extra mile. She helps students develop their voices using advanced vocal techniques to enhance their singing ability to be used for their professional or personal portfolios, skill set and repertoire.
Alisha can assist you in improving & polishing your current singing skills and techniques for on stage-live performances. She can also help prepare you for studio recording sessions.

HOW are vocal classes structured?

Each class begins with a warm up using vocal exercises to help ease tension and relax the voice. A section of the warm up will also include vocal exercises that help improve and challenge areas where the voice isn’t as aware, experienced or confident.

This can include exercises to expand your vocal range, understanding how to transition from chest to head voice smoothly etc.

Alisha B adapts and customizes lesson plans based on the student’s ability, progress and goals.

As she familiarizes herself with a student’s voice, she focuses on enhancing their strengths and developing areas of improvement.

After, techniques explored are applied using a song of the student’s choice or guidance can be offered on song selection.

The song is then analyzed section by section to understand all vocal elements & techniques needed.

Students will also be advised and coached on how to deliver, perform and enhance their voice when singing outside class time. This allows their voices to be groomed and polished correctly and to establish stage presence, confidence and effortlessness when singing and performing.

WHERE do you teach your vocal classes?

Primarily all vocal classes are carried out either online using the Zoom platform or face-to-face at students’ homes or in a private music room.

FACE TO FACE CLASSES

MODES AVAILABLE

Private (1 on 1)

Semi-private (2 on 1)

Students can choose to carry out their private or semi-private vocal coaching sessions at home (given the area is suitable and private) or opt to book a function/music/band room (given the building or vicinity allows or permits this).

If students find that their homes are not suitable or efficient for their vocal class, Alisha B will advise and suggest booking a nearby piano or music room from a local music company. These are not included in class rates and must be arranged by students.

ONLINE CLASSES

MODES AVAILABLE

Private (1 on 1)

Online classes (Zoom) are also available at lower rates for those unable to arrange a venue, prefer to stay non-contact during the Covid-19 era and for overseas students.

Alisha B reminds clients and students opting for the online experience to understand that pace of class will be adjusted accordingly as connectivity issues can arise.
